Description
Saad Zaghloul gives the finger to the presidential elections of 2012. Zaghloul is a popular figure in the Egyptian imagination, a leader of the 1919 revolution, representing Egypt's first nationalist politician who called for independence and democracy.
Many supporters of the revolution were totally disillusioned and abstained in the presidential run-off, as the choice was between Ahmed Shafiq, regarded as a remnant of the old regime, or 'feloul' in Arabic, and Mohamed Morsi, the candidate for the Muslim Brotherhood, whom were considered to be traitors to the revolution. Those revolutionaries who voted for Morsi on the basis that he was the lesser of two evils were called 'lemon squeezers'.
