Title
The Craftsman
Subject
Political Cartoon
Description
The cartoon depicts a craftsman sculpting a large pharaoh with the face of then General Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi, head of the army. The caption underneath reads, "For shame, sir! I’m really doing a proper job on this one—it’ll work like a charm for thirty or forty years at least! God willing.”
The artist, Andeel, criticises El-Sisi as Egypt's next 'pharaoh', correctly predicting that the then army general was positioning himself to become Egypt's next president. In contrast, many other Egyptians, at this time, were praising him as the 'saviour' of Egypt and were calling on him to become president.
