Description
This cartoon was created during heightened polarisation in Egypt between supporters of deposed president, Mohamed Morsi, and supporters of the army who removed Morsi from power. During this period, Morsi's supporters, mainly members of the Muslim Brotherhood, were accused of acts of violence against their civilian opponents. However, they were also the targets of violence by the security forces, which culminated in the massacre of approximately 1000 supporters of Morsi in August 2013.
Woman: "Where to Mikhemar?" Man, holding a Molotov cocktail and a Kalashnikov: "To Explode the Country. Will keep you posted". The man's name is a traditional Upper Egyptian name, implying that the Muslim Brotherhood supporters lack sophistication and are easily manipulated by the Muslim Brotherhood leadership. This is underlined by the title of the cartoon.
