Title
Jon Stewart with Bassem Youssef in Egypt
Subject
Satirical news show
Description
Bassem Youssef mocks government/Muslim Brotherhood narratives that foreign spies are lurking in every corner, bringing on his idol Jon Stewart.
Youssef's show was the first in Egypt to pioneer political satire and, in particular, he became popular for poking fun at the Muslim Brotherhood during their rule. Youssef was inspired by Jon Stewart and the format of 'The Daily Show'. In June 2012, Youssef appeared on 'The Daily Show' and was interviewed by Stewart.
Official claims that spies and other dangers emanating from abroad threaten Egypt's security have been used by various Egyptian governments, not only the Muslim Brotherhood, in order to discredit political opposition and get Egyptians to rally around the flag.
