Viola Shafik's 'Scent of Revolution' traces the Egyptian revolution through the eyes of four different people of different generations living though the upheavals in two different cities: Cairo and Luxor. It moves between the present (the unfolding and incomplete revolution) and the past, remembering the 1952 revolution and the years of Mubarak's rule. The films deals with memory, history and place and feelings of loss, disillusionment as well as hope and optimism.
Viola Shafik is a film-maker as well as an expert on the history of Egyptian and Arab films.
