Title
Following in the Footsteps of the Pharaoh
Subject
Political Cartoon
Description
The cartoon depicts the daughter of ancient Egyptian pharaoh, Akhnaton. It pays tribute to those Egyptian women who cut their hair in Tahrir Square in protest against the 2012 constitution. Many Egyptians opposed the constitution, which they believed failed to protect civil and human rights.
The cartoonist, Doaa Eladl, is probably the most famous female Egyptian cartoonist and is well known for her satirical and political cartoons. She was a strong critic of the Muslim Brotherhood during their year in power.
